The Chief of Staff at the President’s Office, Ali Zahir, has formally requested detailed records related to the sales of vehicle domain numbers from the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Aishath Nahula.
As stipulated under the rules for vehicle domain, a committee is meant to oversee the sale of such domain numbers. Additionally, this Article also mandates that an announcement be made to the public, ensuring that the highest bidder secures the domain.
However, concerns have arisen as the Chief of Staff observed that the Transport Ministry has yet to establish the requisite committee. There are also indications that the expected revenues from these sales are not being accurately reported in governmental accounts. Some domain sales have apparently proceeded contrary to established regulations.
In response, the Chief of Staff has urgently requested a complete account of all transactions connected to the sale of vehicle domains during this term. If any inconsistencies with regulations are found, they should be promptly reported to the President’s Office.
In the interim, the Transport Ministry has been directed to halt all transactions related to the sale of domains until a thorough review is completed and concerns are addressed.
