Two Arrested in Malé Drug Bust as Authorities Seize Nearly 200 Grams

Two men have been arrested in Malé City following the seizure of nearly 200 grams of suspected narcotics during a police operation carried out last Thursday.
The suspects have been identified as 38-year-old Ahmed Samah of Manzil, Th. Guraidhoo, and 35-year-old Mohamed Jamayyil of M. Daisy, Malé. The arrest took place during a joint operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotic Intelligence.

According to Maldives Police Service, officers discovered substances believed to be drugs during a search of a residence in Malé. The preliminary weight of the seized substances was recorded at 193.3 grams.
Following their arrest, both individuals were presented before the court for remand hearings. The court ordered Samah to be held in custody pending the outcome of his trial, while Jamayyil was remanded for five days. Police have confirmed that the case remains under active investigation.
Separately, Maldives Customs seized 18 kilogrammes of drugs during an operation on the night of 10 June. The drugs were intercepted while being smuggled into the country, although no arrests have been made in connection with the seizure.
