The Maldives Police Service has arrested two women in connection with an attempt to smuggle more than two kilos of hashish oil into the country.

The arrests follow a seizure by the Maldives Customs Service on 1 April at Velana International Airport, where 2.17 kilos of hashish oil were intercepted.

The suspects, both Indian nationals, were identified as 23-year-old Ulfath Rasool and 34-year-old Jennifer Paul. They were apprehended by Customs and handed over to the police, who remanded them in custody for 15 days following a court appearance.

The estimated street value of the seized hashish oil is MVR 1.7 million. The police have confirmed that the case remains under further investigation.
