The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has reported that two families affected by last Tuesday’s flooding in Male’ City remain in temporary shelters.

The flooding, caused by torrential rainfall that persisted throughout the day, led to widespread damage across the city.

Initially, the NDMA provided temporary accommodation to five families, comprising 23 adults and 13 children, whose homes were significantly damaged by the heavy rainfall. As of today three of these families have returned to their residences.

NDMA stated that the remaining two families, totalling 10 individuals, are still in temporary housing. One of these families is expected to return home later today, with the other scheduled to move back on tomorrow.

The NDMA had previously received 256 distress reports from Male’ City alone following the heavy downpour. The northern atolls were also severely affected, with 20 cases of damage reported from Haa Alifu atoll.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has been actively assisting affected families, particularly in Haa Alifu atoll’s Hoarafushi, Kelaa, and Ihavandhoo, as well as in Haa Dhaalu atoll’s Hanimaadhoo and Kulhudhuffushi City.
