Two Fires Extinguished in Huraa and Gan, No Injuries Reported

Authorities have extinguished two fires reported on separate islands late last night and early this morning.

According to the Maldives Police Service (MPS), a fire broke out at a house in Kaafu Atoll Huraa at approximately 01:18 a.m. on 13 April 2026. The blaze was brought under control through the combined efforts of police and members of the public.

No physical injuries were reported. However, a Maldivian woman affected by the incident received treatment at the Huraa Health Centre before being transferred to Malé for further care. The house and surrounding property sustained varying degrees of damage.

Police said the incident is under investigation.

In a separate case, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Central Area Command extinguished a fire in a wooded area near Thundi Bodu Mosque in Laamu Atoll Gan.

Firefighters from the MNDF’s Kadhdhoo Fire Station responded to the incident at around 06:16 a.m. and brought the fire under control by approximately 06:53 a.m..

No injuries were reported in the second incident.
