Two foreign employees of a restaurant have been arrested on suspicion of theft after allegedly taking money from the cash counter, claiming they were denied payments owed to them.

The suspects, a 29-year-old Indian national and a 31-year-old Nepalese national, were taken into custody on charges of theft and fraud. They were presented before the Criminal Court, which ordered their remand extended by 15 days.

According to the court’s remand order, the two admitted to taking MVR 200 over the course of two days. They argued that the action was taken because the restaurant owner had failed to provide their agreed salary, pocket money, and service charge. They further claimed that they had been denied medical treatment.

The pair have requested to be released from custody and repatriated.
