Two Maldivian Athletes Set New Four National Swimming Records

The Swimming Association of Maldives announced today that two local athletes have set four new national swimming records in competitions abroad.
In multiple posts on X, the association publicised the national swimming records set by Aisthath Ulya Shaig and Meral Alyn Latheef. They are as follows:
Aishath Ulya Shaig
- Long Course 50m freestyle: 28.64s
- Long Course 50m backstroke: 34.18s

Meral Alyn Latheef
- Short Course 400m Individual Medley: 05:49.54s
- Long Course 200m Individual Medley: 02:45.93s
Ulya renewed these records at the SWA (Swimming Western Australia) Hancock Prospecting State Championships, while Meral set hers at the Welsh Capital Open Meet 2024.
The previous national record for the Long Course 50m freestyle was also held by Ulya, who set a time of 29.29s at the Asian Age Group Aquatic Championships last year. Meanwhile, the national record for the Long Course 50m backstroke was set by Aishath Sausan at the 2023 Indian Ocean Island Games, with a time of 34.32s.
Additionally, Een Abbas Shareed set the national record for the Short Course 400m Individual Medley at 6:46.56s, while the national record for the Short Course 200m Individual Medley was established at the Sri Lankan National and Junior Long Course Swimming Championship with a time of 5:49.54s.
