Two Sri Lankans Arrested in Connection with Airport Taxi Queue Incident

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) arrested two Sri Lankan nationals on Sunday in connection with an altercation at the taxi queue of Velana International Airport.

The incident occurred on 10 January 2026, with police receiving a report at around 12:15 a.m. and attending the scene shortly afterwards. Officers conducted initial inquiries into the circumstances of the altercation.

The two individuals arrested are Thilak Somachandra Maddethalawe Kankanamalage, 43, and Priyantha Silva Dewaniththige, 46. Authorities confirmed that further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
