Two Women Injured In Sinamalé Bridge Collision

Two local women were injured last night when a car collided with a motorcycle on the Sinamalé Bridge.

Police confirmed that the accident took place at 22:17 on the Hulhumalé side of the bridge. Initial reports indicate the motorcycle was hit from behind by the car. The two women on the motorcycle were taken to Hulhumalé Hospital, where they were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Authorities have withheld the driver’s licence pending further inquiries, and an investigation is currently underway. Footage of the scene after the collision has been circulating on social media.

The Sinamalé Bridge has been the site of multiple serious accidents in recent years, including incidents that have resulted in fatalities. Police statistics show that traffic accidents remain the second most commonly reported incidents after theft, with 2,434 accidents recorded so far this year.
