The commitment was conveyed by the British Ambassador to the Maldives, Nicholas David Low, during a meeting with the Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim. The discussions centred on ongoing work related to the Dhivehi language, history and cultural heritage, as well as opportunities to strengthen the Maldives’ capacity in heritage protection.
The UK reiterated its interest in contributing academic expertise to advance these efforts.
Heritage protection has been identified as a priority area under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration. The government is developing and implementing strategies aimed at safeguarding cultural assets, ensuring their recognition and securing resources for heritage management. The Ministry of Language, Culture and Heritage is already leading initiatives to protect and preserve ancient heritage sites across the country.
