Umar Will Not Endorse Any Candidate in Second Round
Independent candidate Umar Naseer has made decision not to endorse any presidential candidate in the upcoming second round of the election.
Speaking on Thursday, Umar highlighted that the Maldivian populace has experienced governance under both the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). He asserted that the consequences of both administrations were apparent, particularly in terms of increased debt and questionable project investments.
Elaborating on his decision not to endorse any candidate for the second round, he emphasised his desire not to contribute to the support and reinforcement of these political entities based on such considerations.
In the initial round, Umar Naseer garnered 6,343 votes, equivalent to 2.8 percent of the total votes, amidst a field of eight candidates.
The front-runners in the race were Dr. Mohamed Muizzu from the PNC, who secured 46 percent of the votes, and incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who garnered 39 percent.
