Households that have not yet collected the government’s Ramadan tuna gift can do so from the MIFCO Centre in Malé until the first day of Ramadan, the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works has announced.
The ministry confirmed that although the main distribution phase concluded last Wednesday, remaining stock will stay available for collection up to the start of Ramadan.
The government has distributed 53,308 cases of canned tuna to households across the Greater Malé Area as part of its Ramadan gift initiative. The figure represents distributions in Malé, Villimalé and Hulhumalé as of Wednesday night last week.
Authorities initially planned to distribute 65,230 cases, based on the number of registered domestic metres in households in the Malé area.
The distribution campaign began on 24 January in preparation for Ramadan, which is expected to commence on Wednesday this week.
The Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works led the operation in collaboration with state-owned enterprises, the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
