The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has revealed its plans to commence construction on the remaining segments of Ameenee Magu starting this Saturday.

Currently, only segments 12 and 13 of the Ameenee Magu redevelopment project are yet to be completed, marking the final phase of the road improvement initiative.

A large portion of Ameenee Magu has already undergone transformation, with asphalt surfacing extending from the Henveiru section of the road to Izzudheen Magu, bringing the thoroughfare up to modern standards. However, the Maafannu end of the road continues to feature stone-paved surfaces.

In a recent development, the RDC engaged in discussions with the Ministry of Infrastructure, leading to the decision to resume and complete the pending works on Ameenee Magu.

Addressing concerns related to the upcoming construction, the corporation announced on Thursday its intention to implement changes to the traffic flow at the Maafannu end of the road. These adjustments will come into effect as redevelopment activities kick off this Saturday.

It is noteworthy that the Maafannu end of Ameenee Magu serves as a bustling hub, hosting various amenities such as food courts, a mosque, the Viliamle’ Ferry Terminal, and the Dhiraagu head office. The proposed changes to the traffic flow are expected to be managed in a manner that minimises disruptions to the daily activities of the area.

The Ameenee Magu redevelopment project, initially contracted to RDC by the former administration on July 3, comes with an allocated budget of MVR 84.4 million.
