UNODC Regional Representative Presents Letter of Appointment to Foreign Minister

The new United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Representative for South Asia, Kristian Hӧlge, presented his Letter of Appointment to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, today.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the presentation, Minister Dr Khaleel highlighted the close cooperation between the Maldives and UNODC, expressing gratitude for the organisation’s ongoing support. He reflected on the role UNODC plays in combating transnational organised crime, as well as countering terrorism and violent extremism in the Maldives. The Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to working closely with UNODC to advance preventive measures, capacity-building initiatives, and evidence-based policies that promote sustainable peace, security, and development.

Regional Representative Hӧlge reaffirmed UNODC’s strong partnership with the Maldives and expressed readiness to support national priorities. He outlined UNODC’s ongoing and upcoming programmes and emphasised the importance of regional cooperation in addressing shared challenges across South Asia.
