The United States has provided additional maritime equipment to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), further enhancing its coastal patrol and operational capabilities.
The handover ceremony took place on Monday at MNDF Headquarters in Hulhumalé. The equipment was presented by US Ambassador to the Maldives Hugo Yon and received by Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy.

The donation includes four Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs), a RIB shelter, and two ramps. The assets were supplied under the US Foreign Military Financing (FMF) programme and the Building Partnership Capacity (BPC) initiative.
RIBs are high-performance patrol vessels known for their speed, stability, and durability, making them suitable for coastal and near-shore operations.
Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Ghiyas and other senior MNDF officials attended the event. Major General Hilmy conveyed appreciation to the United States for its continued support in strengthening the Maldives’ defence capabilities.
This donation follows an earlier contribution in September, when the US government provided special operations equipment to the MNDF.
