The United States has, for the first time in six decades of diplomatic relations, established a permanent Chief of Mission’s Residence in the Maldives.
The move marks a significant milestone in the growing partnership between the two countries, signalling Washington’s intention to further deepen diplomatic engagement and long-term cooperation with Malé.

US officials described the establishment of the residence as a reflection of the strong commitment to strengthen bilateral ties and foster what they characterised as an “enduring friendship” between the American and Maldivian people.
The development comes as the two nations commemorate 60 years since formal diplomatic relations were established.
