Work has commenced on transforming Usgekolhu into an immersive museum that will use modern technology to present Maldivian heritage in a more engaging and interactive manner.

The project is being implemented by the state-owned Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), which was contracted by the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage in September to develop the site. The immersive museum is designed as a sensory-rich environment that goes beyond traditional exhibits, using visual and audio elements to create a more engaging visitor experience.

According to FDC, the museum will incorporate modern technology and will be designed to cater to visitors of all ages. The Ministry has stated that the project is expected to change how Maldivians perceive and engage with their cultural heritage.

The Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naeer Ibrahim, has noted that once completed, the project could also enable the country’s heritage to become a source of income.
