Velaa Private Island Crowned Noonu Zone Champions in Tekkers Dhiraagu Resort Cup 2025

Velaa Private Island secured a 3-0 victory over defending champions Soneva Jani to win the Noonu Zone final of the Tekkers Dhiraagu Resort Cup 2025, held at the World Sports Arena in Siyam World yesterday.

With the zonal stages concluded, Velaa Private Island will now face Le Meridien, champions of the Lhaviyani Zone, in the upcoming inter-zone final scheduled for 27 July 2025.

Now in its fourth year, the Tekkers Dhiraagu Resort Cup has become a significant fixture on the Maldivian sports calendar, showcasing talent among resort staff and fostering friendly competition. The tournament is supported by lead sponsor Dhiraagu, alongside other partners including The Hawks, ABA Maldives, Sonee Sports, Maldivian, and Medianet.

An awards ceremony followed the final, with accolades recognising standout performances:

  • Man of the Match, Top Scorer, and Best Player of the tournament: Ahmed Imran (#14, Velaa)
  • Best Goalkeeper: Ahmed Shafiu (#99, Velaa)
  • Best Coach: Shamweel Qasim (Siyam World)
  • Fair Play Team: Noku Maldives
  • Top 5 Players: Hussain Shaffah (#9, Soneva Jani), Ahmed Imthinah (#7, Velaa), Mohamed Nahiz Ahmed (#3, Siyam World), and Amdhaah Ali (#19, Soneva Jani)

The Host Appreciation Award was presented to Siyam World, the venue of the final.

The event’s chief guest was Ausy Waseem, Resort Manager of Siyam World, with several other senior resort representatives presenting awards.

As the tournament heads into its final stage, anticipation builds for the clash between Velaa Private Island and Le Meridien in what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the 2025 edition of the Tekkers Dhiraagu Resort Cup.
