Veymandu School Celebrates First Hydroponic Cucumber Harvest
The first batch of cucumbers grown using a hydroponic system at Veymandu School was harvested yesterday, yielding a total of 33 kilograms.
This marks a significant milestone for the school’s agricultural initiative, which was launched in conjunction with the celebrations of Farmer’s Day and World Food Day.
The initiative, which aims to foster an interest in agriculture among students, features a small greenhouse equipped with a hydroponic system. This setup enables students to gain hands-on experience in growing crops such as lettuce, cucumber, and melon.
During the programme’s launch, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock emphasised the importance of such initiatives in delivering practical agricultural knowledge to students, describing it as essential for securing the future of agriculture in the Maldives.
