VIA Records 8.28 Million Passengers in 2025

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has reported Velana International Airport (VIA) handled a total of 8.28 million passengers in 2025.
According to statistics released by MACL, international passengers accounted for the majority of traffic, with 5.38 million travellers using international flights during the year. Domestic air travel recorded 1.17 million passengers, while seaplane operations carried a further 1.73 million passengers.
MACL said the highest daily passenger throughout on wheel-based aircrafts was recorded on 28 December 2025, when 27,381 passengers were handled in a single day. Seaplane operations saw their peak on 16 February 2025, with 7,439 passengers transported.

In terms of air traffic movements, Maldivian airports recorded a total of 249,214 movements in 2025, marking an 8 per cent increase compared to the previous year. Of these, 34,868 were international air traffic movements, 24,348 were domestic movements, and 185,998 were seaplane movements.
