Vice Chairman of China’s NPC Pays Courtesy Call on President Muizzu

Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress of China, Wang Dongming, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu this morning at the President’s Office.
According to the President’s Office, during the meeting, President Dr Muizzu expressed his gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping for his continued support, which has contributed significantly to the Maldives’ economic and social development. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening relations with China across multiple sectors, emphasising mutual trust and long-standing friendship. The President also highlighted China’s assistance in major development projects.
Discussions centred on enhancing bilateral relations, exploring new cooperation opportunities, and strengthening existing partnerships, the President’s Office said. Key areas of collaboration identified included housing and infrastructure, fisheries and agriculture, tourism, connectivity, information technology, and trade. Both sides noted the numerous Memoranda of Understanding and agreements signed during President Dr Muizzu’s visits to China and expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of ongoing projects.
Vice Chairman Wang Dongming acknowledged the friendly ties between the two countries, strengthened further by the President’s visits to China. He said the delegation’s visit aimed to deepen the partnership for the benefit of both nations and their peoples. Wang reiterated China’s commitment to the comprehensive strategic partnership and support for the Maldives’ development priorities.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their dedication to advancing Maldives–China relations to deliver tangible benefits. Wang Dongming was accompanied by a senior delegation from the National People’s Congress of China.
