Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has said the next three years will see rapid progress on major national development projects.

In an exclusive interview with Public Service Media (PSM) marking the second anniversary of the current Administration, Vice President reflected back on the past two years, and said the Government inherited significant financial and administrative challenges, which slowed early progress. He added that the opposition’s majority in Parliament, and what he described as efforts to obstruct the work of an elected Government, further delayed key projects.

Despite these difficulties, he said President Mohamed Muizzu remains focused on delivering long-term national development. He noted that several major projects aligned with the President’s strategic goals will move forward more quickly in the coming years.

He commended President Muizzu’s emphasis on initiatives that bring direct benefits to the public, adding that strengthened institutions and clearer planning frameworks now allow development work to proceed more efficiently and transparently.

The Vice President also praised the President’s hands-on approach, pointing to his frequent visits to the atolls as a sign of active engagement in state administration.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to boost national self-sufficiency, including the development of Velana International Airport, the expansion of domestic air travel, and improvements to the wider transport network.

He concluded by reaffirming the Administration’s commitment to tackling national challenges, safeguarding rights, increasing income, and strengthening social and economic stability.
