Villa College Welcomes Fulbright Scholar Professor Dr Charles Vanover at Ceremony
Villa College held a special ceremony to welcome its first visiting Fulbright Scholar, Associate Professor Dr Charles Vanover.
The event marked a significant milestone for the institution as it hosted Dr Charles, an academic distinguished by his expertise and international experience.
The ceremony was attended by notable guests, including Deputy Chief of Mission Anand Krishna, Public Affairs Officer Cheryl Neely, and Public Engagement Specialist Aminath Shizleen, who represented the US Mission.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was also represented by Senior Under Secretary Hassan Hussain Shihab and Assistant Director Fathimath Zeina Abdulla Saeed from the Europe, Americas and Oceania Department.
The event commenced with an introduction from Dr Nasheed, Head of the School of Psychology at Villa College, who outlined Dr Charles’s anticipated contributions during his time at the institution. Following this, the Rector of Villa College, Dr Ahmed Anwar, officially welcomed Dr Charles, highlighting the ongoing efforts to foster a research culture at the college.
Speaking on behalf of the US Mission, Deputy Chief Anand Krishna expressed gratitude to Villa College for the warm welcome and underscored the importance of continued international cooperation and academic partnerships.
In his address, Dr Charles emphasised the pivotal role of research in advancing knowledge and innovation. He also stressed the importance of sharing research findings to promote collective growth and development. He extended his thanks to Vice Rector Dr Ali Najeeb for his hospitality and support.
During the ceremony, Dr Charles was officially appointed as an adjunct associate professor at Villa College. Vice-Rector Dr Najeeb presented him with his certificate of appointment.
Dr Charles, a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship from the US Government, will be working with Villa College for the next four months.
His focus will be on enhancing the college’s research, curriculum development, and pedagogical approaches. This marks the first time Villa College has hosted a scholar under the Fulbright Program.
