The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has opened the process for candidates or their designated representatives to verify and sign the list of eligible voters for the upcoming local council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections scheduled for 4 April.
The signing period will run from March 17 to 19 at the ECM’s Election Centre.
On the same day as the elections, a public referendum will also be held, seeking citizens’ views on whether the parliamentary election should take place alongside the WDC and local council elections. The WDC and local council elections were first held together in 2020, following amendments to the Decentralisation Act in 2019.
Candidates who send representatives must provide a signed authorisation letter, including the representative’s full name, permanent address, and National ID card number, a copy of the candidate’s National ID card, and the original ID card of the representative attending to sign.
The signing schedule will run from 17 to 19 March, with hours from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 9:30 PM to 12:00 AM each day, covering the registers for the Local Council Elections, WDC Elections, and the 2026 Public Referendum.
