VP Attends Opening of Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development

Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef attended the opening segment of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), held yesterday in Seville, Spain.
The conference opened with a formal inaugural session, during which delegates elected the Prime Minister of Spain as President of the Conference. This was followed by high-level statements delivered by heads of major United Nations agencies.
Following the opening, the conference proceeded to the General Debate. Heads of Delegation from around the world took the floor to highlight national progress in financing for development and to outline future priorities.
In the days ahead, the conference will feature a series of side events and multistakeholder thematic roundtables. Discussions will focus on pressing global issues, including the reform of the international financial architecture and the strengthening of development cooperation.
On Sunday, the Vice President also attended an official dinner hosted by Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain. The event, held at the historic Real Alcázar de Sevilla, brought together Heads of State and Government from several nations in honour of the visiting delegates participating in FfD4.
The Vice President is currently in Spain to represent the Maldives at the FfD4, taking place from 30th June to 3rd July 2025 in Seville.
