VP Latheef Highlights Crucial Role of Civil Service in Maldives Governance
Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef underscored the pivotal role of civil servants in the effective governance of the Maldives during his address at the Maldives Civil Service Conference 2024.
In his keynote speech today, the Vice President emphasised the significant contribution of civil servants in fulfilling the government’s commitments to the public and achieving its strategic objectives.

Latheef highlighted the importance of integrity and patience among civil servants, emphasising that citizens can expect efficient services from all government agencies.
Furthermore, the Vice President urged civil servants to prioritise compassionate service delivery to both Maldivian citizens and expatriates, leveraging technological advancements to enhance the speed and efficiency of public services.
He also reiterated President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s vision of providing seamless and prompt services to the public, calling upon civil servants to actively work towards realising this objective.
Vice President Latheef officially unveiled the Civil Service Conference Book during the conference, marking a significant milestone in the event’s fourth edition.
The Civil Service Commission (CSC) announced that the conference will now be held biennially to facilitate ongoing dialogue and collaboration within the civil service sector.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Civil Services Commission (CSC) Maldives and National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), which was signed in June 2019, and aimed capacity building of 1,000 civil servants of Maldives at NCGG, the total number of Maldivian Civil Servants and Officials trained under the MoU are 1005 (32 batches).
These training programmes were conducted as per the requirements indicated by CSC Maldives. From time-to-time there was a joint review of programmes by both CSC Maldives and NCGG besides feedback from participants.
