FENKA Corporation has revealed that water service in Fuvahmulah City was temporarily suspended yesterday following a major leak in the main distribution line.

The interruption, which began at 13:00, was initially expected to last until 18:00. However, officials later indicated that it may take up to two days to fully restore normal service. In a follow-up notice shared on social media, FENKA announced that chlorine is being added to the water network for cleaning purposes and advised residents not to use the water during this period as it is unsafe for consumption.

The corporation also reminded customers to switch off water purifiers during the outage and apologised for the inconvenience caused.

In response to the situation, the Fuvahmulah City Council, which serves a population of over 11,000, held an emergency meeting with Fenaka officials on Monday evening. Council representatives confirmed that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is coordinating efforts to distribute drinking water to affected residents.

Meanwhile, many residents have resorted to purchasing bottled water from local shops as the outage continues to affect household water supplies.
