White Alert Issued from Haa Alif to Vaavu Atolls as Bad Weather Persists

The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert covering areas from the northernmost Haa Alif Atoll to Vaavu Atoll in the central Maldives due to adverse weather conditions.

The alert is in effect from the northernmost Haa Alif Atoll to Vaavu Atoll in the central Maldives from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm today.

During this period, the Met Office said affected areas are expected to experience strong winds ranging between 19 and 24 mph, accompanied by rough sea conditions.

According to the forecast published on the Met Office website, unsettled weather is expected to continue over the next 48 hours. 

Malé and surrounding areas are forecast to experience moderate rainfall during this period, the Met Office said.

MMS categorises weather alerts as follows:

  • White alert: Alert Level 1
  • Yellow advisory: Alert Level 2
  • Orange warning: Alert Level 3
  • Red warning: Alert Level 4
