The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast widespread rain across the country in the coming days, marking the transition from the northeast monsoon to the southwest monsoon.

According to the Meteorological Service, this period signals the end of ‘Iruvai’ and the onset of ‘Hulhan’gu’. Heavy rainfall is expected to persist over the next two days, with weather conditions anticipated to improve by Friday.

In Malé City, continuous rain since last night has resulted in flooding across most streets, creating challenges for pedestrians and causing disruptions to daily activities.

The Meteorological Service has issued two weather alerts in response to the current conditions. A Yellow Alert is in place from Raa Atoll to Alif Dhaalu Atoll, warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, a White Alert has been issued from Gaafu Alif Atoll to Addu City, where strong winds ranging from 19 to 24 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 40 miles per hour, are expected. The sea is also forecast to be rough in these areas.

Authorities have advised the public to exercise caution as adverse weather continues across the country.
