The Maldives is set to experience widespread rainfall over the next two days, providing relief from the recent heatwave as the country prepares to observe the holy month of Ramadan, which is expected to begin on Saturday, according to the national weather agency.
The capital, Male, saw rainfall on Thursday morning, offering a break from the intense heat.
The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast heavy rain and thunderstorms for the southern and central regions of the country, with scattered showers expected in the north over the next 24 hours.
These rainy conditions are expected to persist for the next two days, with improvements likely by Monday, the third day of Ramadan.
The weather agency also predicts north to northeasterly winds at speeds of 8 to 18 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 35 miles per hour during showers.
Seas are expected to be moderate but will become rough during rainfall, with wave heights ranging from 3 to 16 feet.
