Nasheed posited that should Solih secure a second term, he could potentially seek to prolong his tenure, prompting Nasheed to doubt the viability of such an outcome.

The former President outlined the party’s preference for a youthful candidate, one whom he believes the nation requires at this juncture. Nasheed confidently asserted that President Solih would not secure a third place ranking in the initial round of the election, pointing to the candidacy of Ilyas, who has already secured a place in the second round.

Nasheed commented on President Solih’s efforts to garner support from different quarters, yet he firmly stated that his party remains resolute in their decision not to endorse the President in a potential runoff. Nasheed elaborated on their position, stressing that they are unwavering in their resolve to support an alternative candidate for the third term.

Speaking at a gathering in N. Maafaru, Nasheed further expressed his concerns about the implications of a second term for President Solih. Nasheed highlighted the prospect of constitutional changes and potential governmental upheaval. He maintained that the President’s influence over the party members could facilitate such transformations, leading to a significant shift in the country’s political landscape.
