WIZ Company Board Member Amongst Nine Arrested for Drug Possession on Uninhabited Island

A Shareholder and a member of the Board of Directors of The Wiz Company was amongst the nine arrested last Saturday on an uninhabited island for drug possession.
The Maldives Police Service arrested three Maldivians, two Indians, three Sri Lankans and one Bangladeshi at Baa Atoll Maarikulu, in a joint operation by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence Unit, Drug Enforcement Unit, and Baa Atoll Police. Amongst the arrested is Alhan Rasheed Hussain, who is part of the Board of Directors and a shareholder of the company, as per the Maldives Business Portal. He was appointed to both these positions on 16 February 1985.

The court-sanctioned raid was conducted following intelligence received by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence Unit. During the operation, authorities seized 162 cans of beer, five bottles of alcohol, and 12.8g of substances suspected to be drugs.
According to the Atolls of Maldives, the official government database on Maldivian islands, Maarikulu has been registered for agricultural purposes under the construction company, The Wiz Company, since 2013.
Arrested Individuals
Except for one woman, everyone arrested in this case are men.
Maldivians:
- Alhan Rasheed Hussain (49) – M. Javaahiruvaadhee, Malé
- Mariyam Rifau (25) – Gnaviyani Fuvahmulah, Dhiguvaandu, Holland
- Abdul Muhsin (65) – Wafaa, Raa Atoll Inguraidhoo
Indians:
- Kumerasan Chinai (20)
- Dinesh Sammiyappan (29)
Sri Lankans:
- Elavandan Sivagunana Sundrun (39)
- Kanagaraje Ponayya Supayya (46)
Bangladeshi:
- Mohamed Masood (46)
While Abdul Muhsin (65) was released conditionally, the Raa Atoll Inguraidhoo Court ordered the remaining eight individuals to be held in custody for 15 days.
