According to the President’s Office, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for women, strengthening their role in governance, and empowering them to become self-sufficient and independent.

Reflecting on Maldivian history, President Muizzu described Maldivian women as spirited and diligent individuals who have upheld order and contributed beyond the household for generations. He called them the pillars of society, recognising their role in safeguarding the nation’s peace and security for thousands of years. He also credited their unwavering support in driving national development and affirmed that Maldivians take great pride in their women.

Highlighting their role in key sectors, he noted that women form the majority of service providers in healthcare and education, which are crucial to the country’s sustainability and future. He also celebrated the achievements of Maldivian female athletes. He acknowledged the strong presence of women in higher education, citing that Maldivian girls outnumber boys in secondary, higher secondary, and university education, with most top-achieving students being female. Calling this a promising sign for the nation’s future, he quoted the well-known adage: “Educate a woman, and you educate a generation.”

As Muslims, he said, Islam has played a fundamental role in safeguarding women’s rights and elevating their dignity, honour, and status in society. He reminded that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that a mother is the first, second, and third person one must treat with utmost kindness and compassion. He also recalled that one of the Prophet’s final instructions was to treat one’s wife with kindness.
