In a bid to foster a community where mental health is understood and supported, the Women in Fuvahmulah (WIF) NGO has launched the Dhelhahi Project. The initiative aims to cultivate an environment in Fuvahmulah City where mental well-being is prioritized for all residents.
With a vision of creating a safe and valued space where individuals can thrive, WIF is championing collective efforts to promote mental health awareness and support throughout the community. Through the Dhelhahi Project, the organisation is striving to establish a nurturing environment where understanding is widespread and support is readily available.
In a recently released video on social media platform X, WIF conducted interviews with community members, shedding light on the pressing need for mental health support in Fuvahmulah. The video highlights that despite the prevalence of mental health issues, awareness and recognition remain low, especially among older generations.
“It’s long overdue,” remarked one community member in the video, noting the lack of understanding and resources for addressing mental health challenges in Fuvahmulah. “Even our parents and grandparents struggle to comprehend and recognise mental health issues,” they added, noting the tendency to avoid or suppress such issues, allowing them to worsen over time.
Youth, in particular, face numerous unaddressed challenges, yet often lack accessible resources to seek professional help. The Dhelhahi Project aims to bridge this gap by providing much-needed support and opportunities for individuals to address their mental health concerns.
