Yellow Alert Issued as Strong Winds and Rough Seas Continue Across Maldives

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has warned that while rainfall may clear over the weekend, strong winds and rough seas are expected to persist across the country.

A Yellow Alert has been issued from Haa Alifu Atoll to Thaa Atoll, predicting sustained strong winds. The alert has been extended from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm today.
Wind speeds are forecast at 25 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph, with the strongest winds expected today. Although rainfall is likely to subside from tomorrow, northern and central Maldives are expected to experience winds of 15 to 25 mph, with seas remaining very rough.
Conditions are expected to improve from Sunday, with wind speeds dropping to 10 to 20 mph. Adverse weather is forecast to continue until Thursday next week.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution and to consider the weather when planning travel by sea.
