Yellow Alert Issued Northern – Central Maldives: Thunderstorms and Rough Seas Expected

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has issued yellow alert from Shaviyani Alifu Atoll to Meemu Atoll, warning of heavy rain.

These alerts are in effect from 11:30 hours to 15:30 hours today.

The forecasts warns torrential rain and thunderstorms with gusts of 40mph and rough seas expected over the northern to central region.

Residents and visitors in the affected areas are advised by the MMS to remain vigilant and implement appropriate safety measures.

MMS categorises weather alerts as follows:

  • White alert: Alert Level 1
  • Yellow advisory: Alert Level 2
  • Orange warning: Alert Level 3
  • Red warning: Alert Level 4
