The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has announced that the training for aspiring young imams is scheduled to be completed before the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
Dr. Shaheem revealed that a total of 100 young individuals have expressed their interest in pursuing the role of imams. Subsequently, these candidates will undergo interviews in the upcoming week. Interviews for applicants residing in the Greater Male’ Region will be conducted in person, while those in the atolls will undergo online interviews.
As part of the evaluation process, each applicant will be required to read passages from the Quran during the interview and deliver a sermon of their choice on the ministry’s official website. Furthermore, successful candidates will have the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive training program. Participants residing in the atolls will be able to access the program online.
The training curriculum will cover various aspects, including mosque management, the essentials of sermon delivery, handling funeral matters, ethical considerations for imams, the role of the mosque, and the jurisprudence of prayer. This initiative aims to equip the prospective imams with the necessary skills and knowledge to fulfil their roles effectively within the community.
The minister emphasised the importance of a rigorous training process to ensure that imams are well-prepared to serve their congregations, fostering a harmonious and informed community atmosphere.
