A total of 269 participants have completed the third round of the Young Khatheeb Training Programme and received their certificates, bringing the total number of certified khatheebs to 503.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs aims to train 1,000 young khatheebs within five years.

The programme is designed to preserve the nation’s Islamic identity and support the development of skilled religious leaders. It was launched under President Mohamed Muizzu’s vision for capacity building and intellectual development, as outlined in his inaugural address.

At a special certificate presentation ceremony, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, described the graduates’ chosen path as noble and emphasised the role of a khatheeb as one of high honour. He highlighted the importance of young khatheebs serving as exemplary figures in society, encouraging participants to continue developing their skills and to inspire more youth to pursue careers in this field.

Dr Shaheem also noted the positive response from communities, praising the warm reception given to the graduates by residents of their home islands as they assumed responsibilities such as leading large congregations during Eid prayers.
