Zakat House Spends MVR 1.5 Million on Medical Aid in November

The Maldives Zakat House spent more than MVR 1.5 million on medical assistance for low-income individuals in November 2025, exceeding its allocated budget for the month, according to official statistics released by the institution.
On a post shared on X, the Zakat House shared that it had initially earmarked MVR 1.4 million for medical support during the period but ultimately spent over MVR 42,000 above the planned amount. A total of 165 individuals received financial assistance for various medical needs. The largest share of funding—nearly MVR 450,000—was allocated for cancer-related treatments, followed by support for heart-related medical care. An additional MVR 212,910 was spent on bone marrow transplant procedures during the month.
Beyond medical assistance, the institution reported higher-than-planned spending on basic necessities. While MVR 53,750 had been set aside for this purpose, actual expenditure reached MVR 84,200. The Zakat House also spent MVR 69,165 to assist Maldivians overseas who faced serious difficulties.

The statistics further show that more than MVR 1 million was spent on Qur’an memorisation programmes, training initiatives, and activities aimed at promoting Qur’anic education nationwide. Of this amount, MVR 353,218 was used in November alone to conduct various religious programmes.
In addition, the Zakat House spent MVR 100,398 to support individuals pursuing higher education. Administrative costs for the month included MVR 248,120 for staff salaries and wages, along with a further MVR 81,984 to sponsor trainers for capacity-building programmes for Zakat House employees.
The figures provide an overview of the institution’s expenditure priorities for November 2025, with medical assistance accounting for the largest share of spending during the month.
