President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Zam’ath Ahmed Waheed as a Member of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) today.

Her appointment follows parliamentary approval earlier in the week, where she secured 59 votes during Monday’s sitting. Zam’ath was among six eligible candidates whose names were submitted to Parliament by the President to fill the vacancy left by Aminath Amina, whose term ended on 14 June. Before the vote, the Parliamentary Independent Institutions Committee interviewed five nominees, with only three achieving the minimum required score of 75 percent.

Zam’ath stood out with her background in journalism, having worked in the media industry since 2006. She holds a Master of Arts in Journalism from the Islamic University of Maldives and will serve a five-year term on the seven-member regulatory body.

Her addition comes shortly after the recent appointment of Ahmed Rilwan to the commission. The current line-up includes Broadcom President Safa Shafeeg, Vice President Shifla Ibrahim, and members Aminath Nuzuha, Mohamed Abdullah, Ahmed Rilwan, and Aminath Sarahath Izzath.
