Intergenerational Trauma in Maldivians

I have noticed that a lot of Maldivians suffer from intergenerational trauma. Trauma effects are being passed down from one generation to another. Family members are not acknowledging that some of the behaviours they project onto their children are because of past traumas. 

There is a stark difference between living and surviving. A lot of us are just surviving. We are in “survival mode.” Many are growing up in households where yelling and forms of abuse are normalized. These unresolved emotions carry us into adulthood if we do not properly deal with our own trauma. 

These are just my thoughts from observing a lot of friends and family members.
