The Last of Us Remake rumoured for PS5
We’re starting the week with a big one. Recent rumours online from multiple reliable sources point to Sony remaking The Last of Us (2013) for the PS5. While it’s only been seven years since the game originally released for the PS3, it makes a certain sense why Sony would want to remake the whole game for this new generation.
The Last of Us and its sequel are widely considered two of the best games ever made and coupled with the fact that a live-action series based on the first game is in active development, right now might be the perfect time to reimagine Part I and give it a brand new coat of visuals. Considering what Naughty Dog was able to do with the PS4 hardware, it’ll be a spectacular treat to see what they’ll bring to us on the PS5.
Video game publishers face global backlash against increased use of loot boxes
The use of loot boxes in games have increased a significant amount in recent years - so much so that governments have started taking notice. Why are various governmental bodies looking into how you play your video games? Because some of these monetization methods are in games that younger children play, and can have a negative impact on them.
Some of the more intrusive loot box mechanics have been described as “gambling in disguise” and have become so widespread that some countries have already banned it or are in the process of making laws that make such monetization in games illegal - the most recent being the Judiciary of Brazil earlier this month.
Age of Empires is alive and well
Many of you may be familiar with the legendary Age of Empires PC game series. It’s been fifteen years since the last Age of Empires title released, but the series has a cult following that ensured an active community even today. Now owned by Microsoft, the game developers recently announced new content for Age of Empires 2 and 3 and also announced the next game in the series.
Age of Empires IV is set to release later this year on PC.
PS5 players can get in on a great MMO for free
Of course, you could play the backwards compatible PS4 version of Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn - or you could play the newly announced PS5 version of the game. The still monumentally popular MMO is now in open beta on the PS5 and anyone who wants to can join the beta and play with 25 million other players exploring the gorgeous world of Eorzea. A significant part of the game is now available in the Free Trial version and all your progress will carry over to the full game if you decide to continue.
A great deal for a great game.
More Final Fantasy for PS5
More details have been released for the PS5 version of the blockbuster Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The PS5 exclusive DLC will be named “FF7R Episode INTERmission” and will include fan favourite characters like Yuffie. The enhanced remake is set to release on June 10th and will offer higher resolution and framerate along with better environment and character models.
The Borderlands movie is on the way
Filming officially started earlier this month for the Borderlands movie. Based on the popular Borderlands game franchise, the movie also takes place on the planet Pandora. Little is known about the plot but the movie has so far secured many A-list stars such as Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis and even Jack Black as Claptrap.
There is no release date set yet but if the movie is anything like the games it’s based on, you can be sure it’ll be a good ride.
