A ‘Reading Nook’ for Readers at Hiyaa Park

Hiyaa Park, located in Hulhumale’ Phase 2, opened a reading nook on 26 December 2025. In a statement, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said that the nook was created to provide a place for visitors to the Hiyaa Park area to relax and read books.

The Reading Nook is set up inside a converted van, surrounded by greenery within Hiyaa Park. The area features small mushroom sculptures, ladybug decorations, and carefully arranged seating, creating a welcoming space for visitors.

The nook is designed to provide a comfortable place to read for all ages, while also offering elements that appeal to children.

HDC said that there will be books in both Maldivian and English suitable for people of all ages.

HDC said that books for children aged one to six, books for children aged six to ten, teen fiction, books for learning the Dhivehi language, as well as cooking, lifestyle, and religious books will also be available.

HDC said that visitors to the Hiyaa Park area can read books anywhere in the park after picking them up from the nook. However, the company stated that the books must be returned before leaving the area.

The Reading Nook will be open daily from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM.

“This is an important project for those who are interested in reading books and aims to increase community engagement in Hulhumale’ and improve mental health,” HDC said in a statement.

HDC stated that it always strives to make Hulhumale’ a pleasant and modern destination with up-to-date facilities.
