Ibrahim Nasir (Ibbe), Security Manager at Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort | MV+ People

“I believe that the highest income-sourcing industry is the hotel industry. Due to that, I believe that Maldivians should be the ones to oversee the security of this industry. I always employ Maldivians to train under me as permanent staff, although some excellent foreign individuals do show up from time to time. But given what the law constitutes, I believe that employing Maldivians would result in exponentially better security services across the industry,” says Ibrahim Nasir (Ibbe), Security Manager at Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort.

Nasir joined the resort in January 2023 as part of the pre-opening team and now serves as Security Manager, overseeing both security and transport operations.

His career spans nearly two decades, beginning in the prison service before moving into resort security. He has played key roles in the pre-openings of major properties such as Jumeirah Vittaveli Maldives and Viceroy Maldives, and has held positions at Atmosphere Kanifushi Maldives, Niyama Private Islands Maldives, Mövenpick Maldives and Universal Huvafenfushi Maldives. Avani+ Fares is the ninth resort in his professional journey.

Operating in the remote Baa Atoll, where seaplane transfers and weather conditions present daily challenges, the resort places strong emphasis on preparedness. A highly trained security team follows clear protocols to ensure guest safety while keeping security discreet and unobtrusive.

Nasir believes tourism is the backbone of the Maldivian economy and strongly advocates for security roles to be led by trained Maldivians. While recognising the contribution of foreign professionals, he remains committed to developing local talent and strengthening the country’s security sector from within.
