The World Health Organization (WHO) has honoured the Maldives with two prestigious public health achievement awards, acknowledging its notable progress in health standards across the Southeast Asian region.

During its 77th Southeast Asia Regional Committee meeting held in New Delhi, India, on Monday, the WHO celebrated countries with significant contributions to public health. The Maldives was recognised specifically for its success in controlling Hepatitis B in children, as well as for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in reducing under-5 mortality, neonatal mortality, and stillbirth rates.

In addition to the Maldives, South Korea, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand were also awarded for their public health achievements at the meeting. Earlier this year, on 17 January, the WHO declared that both the Maldives and Sri Lanka had successfully achieved full control of Hepatitis B.
