Housing Ministry to Gather Public Feedback on National Development Plan

The Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, announced that teams from the Housing Ministry will conduct visits to islands across the nation to gather public input on the National Development Plan.

In a press conference, Dr Haidar outlined that the plan would consider various factors, including the availability and sustainable management of natural resources, resource allocation, and the preservation of these resources for future generations. He added that data on the working population and living standards will also be integrated into the planning process.

The minister emphasised the importance of public involvement in drafting the plan, affirming that community engagement will be a top priority. To facilitate this, he confirmed that ministry teams would conduct interviews with local residents to incorporate their perspectives.

The National Development Masterplan, a 20-year framework for Maldives’ growth, was introduced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on 17 September. Muizzu shared a video on social media to highlight the Masterplan’s aim of fostering national development aligned with citizens’ needs and aspirations, underscoring that it would provide a structured and legally binding approach to fulfilling a key campaign pledge.
