MET Office Issues White Alert for Swell Wave Surges

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has issued a white alert for a significant portion of the Maldives, cautioning residents and visitors about potential swell wave surges.

The alert is in effect for the region spanning from K. Atoll to Addu City, from 11:30 PM to 3:30 PM today. The MMS has indicated that swell wave surges may occur during high tide periods.
Despite the warning, fine weather is anticipated across the Maldives, with southwest to westerly winds ranging from 8 to 18 miles per hour. The seas are expected to remain moderate, with average wave heights between three and five feet.
MMS categorises weather alerts as follows:
- White alert: Alert Level 1
- Yellow advisory: Alert Level 2
- Orange warning: Alert Level 3
- Red warning: Alert Level 4
