Road accidents have dropped to their lowest level this year in September, with 186 incidents reported, down from an average of over 200 per month earlier in the year.
Police statistics show a total of 2,192 accidents in the first nine months of this year, compared to 2,300 for the same period last year, with September figures consistent at 186.
The decrease is attributed to a heightened police presence on the roads, implemented in response to an uptick in serious incidents. Police Commissioner Ali Shujau affirmed that this enhanced visibility will be ongoing. Additionally, the police department plans to increase the number of frontline officers and ensure a police presence on the streets every five minutes, aiming to further improve road safety and reduce accidents.
