24-Year-Old Maldivian Man Dies in Freediving Incident near Alifushi

A 24-year-old Maldivian man has tragically died after drowning while freediving near Alifushi in Raa Atoll earlier today.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the young man had gone fishing near the island’s seawall with two friends. Authorities received a report around 12:08 p.m. stating that the man had been underwater for an extended period of time.

The man was transported to the Alifushi Health Centre, where he was declared dead. Police have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
