STELCO Upgrades Electricity Network in Male’

STELCO has begun upgrading the electricity network in the Male’ area in anticipation of the forthcoming peak season and hot weather.

In a social media post, the company emphasised its commitment to ensuring a sustainable electricity supply that can meet the increasing demand in the city. As part of these efforts, the capacity of the substation at the junction of Majeedhee Magu and Sosun Magu has been enhanced, with the replacement of the existing 630 KVA transformer by a new 1,500 KVA transformer.

STELCO stated, “There are more plans in place to boost the capacity of the distribution network to meet the electricity demand in the city.”

In a related development, STELCO has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China’s TBEA Group Co. Ltd. The agreement aims to establish a 150MW powerhouse in Gulhifalhu and to conduct a feasibility study for a high-capacity transmission line linking Male’, Villimale’, and Gulhifalhu.
